Who is Hugh Rogers?
The Hugh Rogers WAG Park stands as a heartfelt tribute to Dr. Hugh Rogers, a beloved local veterinarian and passionate animal advocate. His extraordinary dedication to animals and their families left an indelible mark on our community.
Inspired by James Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small, Hugh pursued a career in veterinary medicine with unmatched compassion, purchasing Alpine Animal Hospital in Whitefish in 1997. He was deeply respected for his unwavering commitment to all creatures, great and small, often working tirelessly on call 24/7 and selflessly using his time and resources to care for strays and shelter animals.
Hugh’s love for animals extended to his passion for aviation. As a pilot for Angel Flight, he combined his skills with his mission to serve others, offering free flights to children and adults in need of critical medical access.
Tragically, Hugh passed away on his 50th birthday, April 1, 2009, due to injuries from a plane crash over the Hungry Horse Reservoir. Despite his untimely passing, his legacy as a philanthropist, healer, and hero lives on.
The Hugh Rogers WAG Park is more than a place for dogs and their families—it's a celebration of Hugh’s boundless compassion and dedication to making the world a better place. His memory continues to inspire us and is forever honored in this cherished sanctuary of joy, connection, and love for all.
